BSTFC Reserves vs Frampton Athletic
By Darren Williams
BSTFC took to the field looking to bounce back from a disappointing result against league leaders Bendix last weekend as they welcomed Frampton Athletic to the JC.
Here is how they lined up:-
Potter (J), Williams, Amin, Gosling, Turner, Sykes, Cornock, Dawes, Whiting, Platts and Hussain with Pearce, Bridgman and Thickett on the bench.
The hornets played up the slope in the first halve.
It was a sloppy start by both teams as the heavy pitch meant free flowing football was a rarity. It was Frampton who looked the more likely to score when a defensive mistake lead to an opening and the Frampton striker fired powerfully against the bar, the ball bounced down and it was hard to tell whether or not it had crossed the line however the referee concluded it hadn’t crossed the line.
With challenges going in from both teams both Dawes and Williams were warned by the referee after committing a few fouls.
Platts nearly scored when he went in for a ball close to the keeper, the referee gave a foul but there was no dangerous intent from Platts who was entitled to challenge for the ball. It was a brave save to keep the game at 0-0.
Gosling also came close when his header didn’t find the back of the net and was well saved by the keeper.
Sykes was pressing forward down the right and Hussain was getting the ball and looking to create chances with Platts supporting him.
Bridgman came on and was showing composure on the ball which to this point had been lacking overall from the team and he was then found in the box by Platts and he slotted into the bottom right corner to put the Hornets 1-0 up.
The reserves were put under more pressure by Frampton and had Potter to thank for keeping it at 1-0 as he made a cracking save from the opposition striker to push it past the post. He also produced a similar save in the first Halve.
Sykes switched to up top and could have had an opportunity to score but got his feet in a tangle and tripped himself whilst running into the box.
Dawes and Williams were then given yellow cards and were subsequently substituted by manager Burch as Thickett and Pearce came on to provide some defensive stability.
Both of them did well when they came on but unfortunately the pressure from Frampton eventually told as a good ball into the box was not dealt with and evaded Amin and Gosling and it was headed into the far left corner. 1-1 with not too long to go.
It finished 1-1. It was a disappointment to not come away with three points however either team could argue they deserved the win so maybe a draw was a fair result. Credit to Frampton who were resilient and kept pressing us.
Burchy awarded Turner the MOTM as he produced an assured display.
Week off next week!
